About Us

Mission Statement

The Fredericton Area Watersheds Association (FAWA) is a community-based organization, committed to the preservation, protection, and sound management of Fredericton's streams and their watersheds through collaborative activities. Our interest is in the tributaries, and their watersheds, of the St. John River whose outlets are located within the Fredericton city limits. Though our scope of activity is focused on the Capital Region, we hope that our work will both contribute to ongoing efforts to preserve and restore the St. John River system, and provide a regional model for conducting urban ecosystem management efforts.

Objectives

1) Increase awareness of the existence of local streams and the connections between land use/land cover and water quality;

2) Support action, in particular, activities and land management strategies appropriate for private actors that can contribute to protection and enhancement of local water quality.
